Is he brilliant or imbecilic? Is he of fantastic manner or exceedingly irreverent? Jev is a polarizing individual: people tend to hate him or love him. His flights of fancy, odd misjudgements and spontaneous outbursts are often considered either endearing or grossly inappropriate and annoying. Always finicky and seldom serious. Or is he being serious? His eccentrism nearly makes him a parody of himself. Those intrepid enough to get to know him, however, tend to learn something else.

Isabeau knows what happens to heroes - they die - and she has determined never to be one. No, Isabeau sees no need to take up arms and shield in defense of honor - there's enough of that among her people. Instead, she gives them something to champion. That's not to say Isabeau is a reckless woman, and certainly not a helpless one. But she's not at all averse to playing a damsel in distress if it can get her what she wants, and she's not ashamed to rally her chivalrous acquaintances against necessary targets with some true ruthlessness, at times. Some of it is smarts, she sees the courtly games for what they are and plays to win for the good of what family she has left. There's also a part of her that simply enjoys the feeling of power she gets when she wins someone to her side or influences someone to do what she wants, all while remaining a kind and loving woman.

Iseulet carries herself with the regal poise of a Queen though there are some that would say more like a cat. They might not be wrong, as there is definitely something about the way she moves that evokes leonine temperance and grace. This capricious nature is moderated by a coquettish disposition, a wicked wit, and sharp sense of humor. Recent years in Arx have worn away her cynicism and polished her rough edges to reveal her as a sophisticated woman. Looking past her outward charm, many find that she has a surprising mind for numbers and business, her intelligence parallel to her beauty.

Isidora likes to play at being very stoic and emotionless, however, this attempt breaks when she is put under strain or someone teases her too much. This can be a mixed bag of reactions, typically anger or embarrassment. Very little doesn't make Isidora blush. She can think someone or something is very cute and it'll make her blush, though, she works hard at hiding it when she does turn red. So hard that, depending on the person, she might react in anger if brought to her attention. Isidora is very compassionate, though, not overly affectionate and has quite the temper. Despite all this Isidora is extremely loyal and she bears a honor code of her own, which is to say she /tries/ not to talk about people behind their backs, tries not to do anything that she, or her family, would deem dishonorable.

It can be hard to peg Amerigo's personality. He has charm, swagger, the look of a Steward who in another life could have gone on to be a pirate. He is smart as a whip, and will engage in wordplay and banter at the drop of a hat. He will take the side of an argument opposite the other person simply to have the argument and learn how they think. But, behind all that, behind the sarcasm and biting remarks is a man loyal to his family and commited to doing what is in the best interest of the House and its members. Just understand that if he's asked to do something, it is highly likely he will tell you no, even send a messenger back with a long winded response as to why he won't do it...only for the requested item or happening to show up moments later because he was working on it the whole time.

The truth is that he really does -try- to be the outgoing, sociable, friendly fellow that he seems to believe he's supposed to be. He's just not that good at it. His isolated childhood made him quiet and prone to withdraw and listen, rather than be more actively involved in conversations. He tends to think before he acts, sometimes far more than he ought to, making him at times seem hesitant. He is slow to anger, preferring to try and solve problems rather than escalate them.

It is rare that anything seems to upset or alarm Driskell, a man who has served the Thraxan house of Darkwater for many years. He is always socially correct, although at times looks more warrior than steward and has no problems giving dry witty comments when the situation calls for them. It is rumored that Darrow of House Darkwater has not laughed in fifteen years. Even as a youth and squire he was known as 'Dour Darrow', and his somberness is matched only by his relentlessness. It is the one-eyed man who is king over the blind. All his life, Gerrick has been aware that things don't simply happen. There are no coincidences in this world. Things are linked, connected. There is a cause for every effect and yet those around him so infrequently question, instead they blindly accept what answers they are fed. Not Gerrick! He questions, he investigates, he goes seeking those mysteries to bring them into the light! On his own time, that is. While he is a dedicated observer of the unknown and cryptic, he is also dutiful about his professional life as investigator, former Tracker and sometimes guard captain for the Keaton family. It isn't that Roland is stubborn, exactly. It's just that once he sets his mind on something, it takes an almighty lever to move him. He readily admits when he is wrong, if he /is/ wrong, because he is most certainly not proud. But if he thinks he is right and has enough faith or knowledge to back it up, it is nearly impossible to budge him. He plants his feet and grips his mace and simply stays put. He's very uncertain about anything that he doesn't know well (which is most things other than whalloping stuff and sheep) and is horribly tongue-tied around most people, including but most especially ladies and gentlemen who are attractive. At heart, he's a farmboy and a shepherd, and is most happy with a nice beverage, a roaring fire, and stars to look at - but on the opposite end of that is his absolutely resolute dedication to protecting people who cannot protect themselves. He has been entrusted with the ability to guard others and keep them safe so that they may enjoy the lives that the gods have given them, and he takes that as seriously as it can be taken.

It may be a somewhat trite metaphor, but it is entirely apropros to picture Lia as a babbling brook. A seemingly boundless font of both optimism and enthusiasm, she has been accused often of being an unequivocal idealist and rather exhausting to boot. She smiles and damns ill luck for naught, whether or not it may tempt fate, and tends to utilize laughter as the proverbial blunt tool for all occasions. Much like her actual, tangible tools, she is adaptable for all situations provided an endless, awkward stream of consciousness is considered suitable. This so-called pleasant facade is as unrelenting - and nearly as insurmountable - as a stone buttress, meant to dash the hopes of those who attempt to breach it to find the soft, fleshy bits underneath.

It would be a mistake to consider Austen a dull man. While not especially outgoing, he is determined and decisive, and his silence is not borne of thoughtlessness or shyness: he's just terrible at small talk. Additionally, deception is not something Austen does: he is consciously opposed to it and terrible at it on the rare occasion he tries. He is fiercely protective of his family and the few people close to him. Threats are not beyond him, regardless of who the threat is, but he can usually get the sentiment across by glaring daggers.

It would be easy for a girl newly emerged from the backwater of Valardin lands to be starry-eyed, with grass-seeds in her hair and no concept of how to handle the big city. But Verity's love for life translates into her being like a fish introduced to water. She lives, she loves, she laughs, she fights. There's not an experience out there that she doesn't want to try or hasn't already sampled, and her enthusiasm for new delights and old ones remains undiminished.

It would be easy to have become cold, or distant, living on Escuma and being mostly isolated from a lot of the Islands. But Annika was never geared towards that type of personality. She has always had a maternal streak, but don't let that fool you, she's not a push over.

It would be quite easy for those who first meet Ilinca to believe her aloof, what with her airy affect that would seem haughty, perhaps even cold, if it weren't for the fierce, somewhat unsettling intensity of the unblinking stare that focuses on the subject of her attentions. The truth of the matter lies there in her watchful eyes. As a stranger in a strange land, in many ways isolated and unfamiliar with all of that around her, she often prefers to observe the steps of the proverbial dance rather than engage in it and trod clumsily on someone's toes. Once her curiosity has been captured, however, she proves to have a formidable wit and a quick, piercing - if occasionally somewhat macabre - sense of humor.

It's a hard-knock life! Or so people say, but the girl named Lola Tragedy never got the message. She is the embodiment of kindness, generosity and easy love. Life has handed her a bucket of sour lemons and she didn't just turn it into lemonade, she made sure everyone around her - everyone she passed in her life - had a glass of that lemonade too. She dedicates herself to the lower boroughs, and wakes every day with the promise to put a smile on each of their faces. Outside of the boroughs tells a slightly different story. While among her own she glows with warmth and kindness, as soon as her path is crossed with nobility she becomes so painfully and awkwardly shy that she can barely function. Bright and gregarious, he can be the life of the party, but he has a remarkable habit of high-level obnoxiousness combined with a frequent inability to even know what he did to piss someone off. That said, he can be quite charming, and there's a draw to his energy. A natural thrill-seeker, he's certainly not a coward; he's just spent most of his life allergic to responsibility. While he likes to eschew his Oathlander roots and all of the stereotypes they involve, he has a core of morality and honesty that belies his protests.

She's bright of mind and spirit, with a tendency to focus on the good and the constructive as a means to balance all the bad in the world. This has often seen her written off as young, naive, hopelessly optimistic. Beneath the glimmer of high spirits and boundless enthusiasm, she is keen, perceptive and fiercely committed to maintaining the warmth she carries in her heart for her land and her people. Further still, while not cruel, he enjoys fighting, and killing, and the rush of battle, embodying the traits that give the Thrax their reputation. He's a man's man, and at his heart, a traditionalist, believing that thralls should be kept as thralls, and piracy is a good thing, and if someone is weak or unprepared then they don't deserve to keep what's theirs. He has a quick tongue that lends itself to bloody humour, and at his heart, he's a pragmatist, unafraid to run if the situation calls for it, and always open to new ideas in a military sense. He's the type of man to be fiercely loyal to someone he's pledged himself to, so much so as to ignore rules of respect or propriety in dealing with the enemies of a liege. Those who have expended the time and energy to know him better are treated to a more conversant side of him, one that is somewhat more willing to dispense with his private thoughts and muted, albeit genuine, feelings. His sense of humor is dry, obscured beneath a mask of composure that makes his occasional quip all the more unexpected, and perhaps even more difficult to read. The prince is a layer of impassive control over a hot core of passionate energy that manifests more readily - and creditably - on the battlefield. A fierce warrior, by the book officer and proficient sailor, the prince prefers an active, regimented life and finds himself restless and discontented when separated from structure. In almost all situations, he is unlikely to yield up to a moment's recklessness unless otherwise pushed to the edge, in the absence of any other option.

Jasmine is known to be sweet and vivacious. She plays the part of a welcoming hostess with ease, moving between topics of conversation while ensuring everyone's drinkis topped off. Yet when the time comes, she's not afraid to drag a wallflower out to the middleof the dance floor and kick some life into things either. et there are times she's quiet, preferring to keep to herself. It's been said by more than one member of the family that she was born of two souls: one of a performer, and one of a bookworm. You just never know which you might get.

Jason comes off as friendly, and very coy. He won't give you a straight answer to anything. He smiles easily, but there's a keen searching intensity in his eyes. As if he's committing everything he sees to memory. Or considering how much coin is in your purse. His charm is beguiling yet you can't help feeling you're in the presence of a person that is more kin to a snake than a man.

Jasper once was a young, brash knight who let his heart lead him to make great acts of courage and valor. But since being left at the altar and subsequent scandal, the young man has become a bit jaded with the world. He doesn't trust as easily as he once did. He finds more darkness in others than light. He definitely doesn't seem as enamored in rescuing damsels.

Jasra is inquisitive. This does not always manifest as outright questions, but can be as simple as intense scrutiny as she takes in every detail she can. Later she'll toy with these puzzle pieces in her head and try to make them fit together, only going out of her way to ask when she can't put together clues. Other times she is blunt and will send a barrage of questions to whomever she thinks has the answers, be they high or be they low. Above all, Jasra knows that life is fleeting, and in her mind the best way to honor it while it's here is to understand it. While many may find her constant questioning to be annoying, for Jasra it's honoring something that won't last forever and helping it live that much longer. 'It' usually being an idea.

Jaufrey would never deny that he is ambitious and in possession of a considerable amount of self-regard. He takes pride in his skill and hard work, and bragging never truly hurt anyone. Unlike most nobility - with their heirloom weapons, vast riches, and access to the best instructors - Jaufrey has had to get where he is on his own, and feels he is more than justified to toot his own horn. If someone else has a problem with that, they can just deal with it. Or prove him wrong. This pride, unfortunately, comes with some notable drawbacks. The young man has high standards for himself but low patience. This has inevitably resulted in a strained relationship with his father, whose attempts to instill some wisdom in him have mostly fallen on deaf ears. Thankfully, he is frequently kind and has a strong moral compass. He has a penchant for stepping up for those who cannot defend themselves, and always fights with honor even if it may mean he loses. He is young, and has plenty of time to learn.

Jay is amiable and ambitious. There is a light-hearted side of him that enjoys good company and good ale, and he is comfortable mingling with people from all walks of life. He finds working with a needle and thread to be calming and therapeutic, which coincides with the side of him that is focused and detail oriented. A deeply rooted appreciation for fashion has him almost always dressed in nice clothing as he does, indeed, care about his appearance. Jay is happiest when he is designing and he certainly has an artist's eye for color, style, and texture while shopping, drawing, and painting. He is equally balanced when it comes to being physically and mentally active, enjoying a good dance and also a good book on a regular basis. Oh, and jokes. He likes a good joke and does love to laugh.

Jayden is not the typical scion of the North, being a somewhat quiet and introspective young man; but it isn't that he's shy, for he will open up easily. He simply likes to observe the world around him, especially the people and signs of the spirits. He's easy to smile and easy to laugh, but hard to anger. For Jayden, anger burns cold and hard. When he makes a friend, he's loyal to them, but if betrayed he does not forgive easily.

Jeffeth is warm, and friendly, and mellow. It's possible that somewhere within that broad-shouldered frame there could be a spark of heat, for it is true there is a spine, and he will stand up for those as need standing up for. But primarily, the best weapons he has to apply to any situation -- aside from the sword and shield he has trained in -- are his patience and his understanding. He has a knack for approaching the complex, the dramatic, and the tense, and breaking issues down to their component parts, to tackle problems in small, handleable pieces, rather than huge, overwhelming panics. He is a loving man of deep optimism and golden-forged hope. Sure, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but not everyone needs to be a genius, and his emotional intelligence is stronger than many a book-learning lesson.

Jennyva is calculating. She's smarter and faster than most, with better instincts -- and she's far too smart to ever tell anyone that. When she feels like saying something snarky, it's either directed gently at herself (to seem relatable), or gently at someone safe (to win the friendship of her targets). She was never interested in war, or sport, or anything else in particular until she realized she had to step up and be the 'Face' of House Shepherd. And then she discovered something about herself. She liked how it felt to /win/. To win treaties, to win allies, to outmanuever and shore up and secure and charm what her family needed. It's an addictive feeling, and she uses all her considerable natural talents to chase it.
