Description
An athletic build has sculpted Jay as a man of strength and endurance, and some perceive him as being in the wrong profession because of it. Shouldn't he be a knight? Naval commander? Captain of the guard? None of those. He is proportionate with muscled arms capable of swinging huge weapons and with strong legs that can run long distances. Instead, those very capable arms and hands wield writing utensils and fabric scissors, and those strong legs dance more than run. Standing at 6'2", he is broad shouldered with a presence that draws attention. Jay's facial features are that of a strong jawline, defined cheekbones, and laugh lines that appear as crows feet around the outer corners of his eyes. He can sometimes be found with the shadow of a beard, and his chestnut brown hair is usually kept closely cropped on the sides and a bit longer at the top. Blue eyes are windows to his mild nature and also have the tendency to reveal a sparkle of mirth when the proper conditions call for it.
Personality
Jay is amiable and ambitious. There is a light-hearted side of him that enjoys good company and good ale, and he is comfortable mingling with people from all walks of life. He finds working with a needle and thread to be calming and therapeutic, which coincides with the side of him that is focused and detail oriented. A deeply rooted appreciation for fashion has him almost always dressed in nice clothing as he does, indeed, care about his appearance. Jay is happiest when he is designing and he certainly has an artist's eye for color, style, and texture while shopping, drawing, and painting. He is equally balanced when it comes to being physically and mentally active, enjoying a good dance and also a good book on a regular basis. Oh, and jokes. He likes a good joke and does love to laugh.
Background
A humble family whose matriarch is a seamstress in a barony outside of Bastion, the Rosens are no strangers to hardship. Jay was born a middle child in a household of four other children while his mother did her very best to keep them all sustained with her occupation. She is credited for keeping her family together after her husband died unexpectedly while on a winter trip to the Northland. Jay's sisters found jobs as soon as they were old enough and he did most of the manual labor whenever a repair around the house needed to be done. He was no stranger to gardening, building fences, stable duty, or cooking while his mother worked.
In his youth, Jay discovered a talent for mending his own clothes whenever he found a tear in his pants or shirt from outdoor work he had been doing. Needlework brought a sense of deep satisfaction whenever he could repair a garment and save it from being tossed out. When he was of proper age he acquired an apprenticeship at a local tailor's shop where he learned the basics of running a business. In addition, the proprietor introduced him to the art of fashion and that's when he found his one true love: making clothes. He began to design and sew his own clothing, only to branch out and tailor for others when his confidence and experience grew. The more clothes he made, the clearer his vision became: he knew he was meant to become a Disciple of Jayus, join the Crafters Guild, open his own shop, and create clothes for all in the city of Arx.
