Horatio is a man devoted to the pursuit of knowledge. Devoted to the point that the lad sometimes needs to be physically dragged away from his work for mundane necessities like food or water, and will forget them for days if not checked in on. In saying that though, Horatio is in no way a mild-mannered or meek scholarly type, his opinions are varied and rarely held back in conversation. Unfortunately, he lacks any sort of tact that his opinions might be expressed without insult, and often comes across as insolent at best, or downright belligerent at worse. And his short temper doesn't help much either. Unlike people (except perhaps his family) the plants, herbs and flowers he keeps are treated with kind words and meticulous care, and he speaks more comfortably in the company of his unique 'pets' then he would with any human acquaintance. Never purposely malicious or intentionally rude, the lad's heart is in the right place; it's just that it cannot get a word in edgewise with that overbearing mind of his. Horatio does indulge in some frivolity outside of his experiments. He regularly enjoys a drink or two, and has a particularly rich palate when it comes to food and there is little he will not try at least once. The lad is adventurous in his own odd way. And while he certainly won't jump at the chance of discovering new lands, because 'living rough' brings him to shudder, his sense of adventure is geared towards the weird, wonderful, and often off-putting leaps of science and medicine.

Hot-headedly ambitious, Jeremiah is an easy-to-read man. When he is joyous, he is obviously joyous, bothered, obviously bothered. He defaults to a deferential and polite manner, a mask; he does this particularly with strangers and social betters, yet is easily-riled. To a point, he keeps it under control visually, helpless from letting emotion leak into his features and vocie but not what he says...but once it does it may drive him to further 'politeness,' obseqious 'politeness.' Pushed past that, he may drop all pretense of it, unleashing a wicked and perhaps-cruel wit. He is sharp, clever, and driven.

Ian is at once serene and driven, ruthlessly efficient to a degree that doesn't always seem human. Duty is what drives him -- duty to his wife, duty to his family and his people, duty to his fealty, duty to the Compact, and duty to the Gods -- and he's tireless in its pursuit. He doesn't feel as deeply most people do, and this, combined with his drive and uncompromising nature, make it hard for him to connect with people or understand the nuances of social interaction. In a lot of ways, his social limitations frustrate him more than his physical ones. It's only when he has a weapon in hand that everything snaps into focus and the world makes sense to him; it's no wonder that he only really inhabits his own skin when he goes to war.

Icelyn remains deeply conflicted about having set aside her Godsworn oaths. Her sense of identity remains deeply rooted in her devotion to the Faith, so much so that she scarcely knows herself without it! Time spent first as a guardian of the roads and later as a Shav'arvani captive has left her with a deficiency where personal pride is concerned. In fact, Icelyn's predisposition towards service and humility is quite unbecoming for her renewed station. Along with an almost willful ignorance of the nuances of political life, this contributes to her transition back into the Peerage being an uncomfortable one. For everyone.

Ida is a simple woman, with simple pleasures in life. She doesn't have much time for fancy things, and doesn't envy the nobility their political games. She loves the feel of moving her body, using her strength to create arms and armor, or any forged thing. She loves the feel of fighting, of hitting and being hit, though never out of cruelty or anger. She's very aware of herself, and the potential harm she could cause, and it gives her a gentle spirit in a lot of ways. She's rowdy and raucous, but has no taste for using her power to bring others harm, and she certainly does not tolerate those that do. If Dame Hazel Helianthus were to ever take offence at a stone wall, those who know her would agree that it's even odds as to which would win. When she sets her sights on something this Knight generally doesn't stop until she achieves it - but that doesn't mean she cares little for the consequences. Everything she sets her eyes on is weighed, the consequences measured, and it's only after she decides that it's worth it that she brings her will to bear. And yet, despite everything, Hazel hasn't lost her sense of humour.

If Edwyn had a first choice for Great Houses to be born into, it would probably have not been Valardin. Though raised to strive for the ideal of the gleaming Valardin knight, it is hardly a role he takes to naturally, even if he may have a small talent with mount, mace and sword. Neither has he excelled in the few other roles he has tried to put his mind to - not faithful enough to sincerely serve the gods, not diligent enough to care for mathematics and stewardship, not charming and cunning enough to be a politician, he doesn't know what he can really be, nor what he wants to be. He is, at least, outgoing enough to enjoy a cup of tea here and there, and schooled well in his courtesies. He spoke only to his dogs, massive monstrosities of battle no weaker and no less ferocious than he; salivating at the thought of thrall-hunt. But silence was his primary form of conversation, eyeing others as if you were tantalizing meat ready for slaughter. Pure, unfettered, hardened silence grasping tenuously at the rage that hides beneath. That is his reputation, one cultivated and displayed to keep others at a distance. The truth is that his time away from civilization changed him. It did not make him soft or slow but patient. He expels an air of tranquility that listens and contradicts his large frame.

Optimistic and exuberant, the little baker is a brilliant mind when it comes to her art and yet... is probably one of the more absent-minded people you may meet. If one believes the rumours, they will hear about how Poppy was born on an unfortunately hot summer's day. The midwives who brought Poppy into the world all laugh of how the sun had to have shone so brightly because they have never known such a cheery baby to be born. It was as if the baby was pure sunshine. And that is what Poppy is to her family. A ray of sunshine in a dark and sombre environment. As an always smiling and a friendly face she has been the one to lead the welcoming party to those who come to Bonespire, or to entertain the most serious of shamans. She is naturally cheery and bright, but also a born empathic. She is the shoulder to cry on, the sympathetic ear. Poppy has a knack for charming nearly all who come into contact with her and inspiring awe at the wonders of the Everwinter. He is little reason to speak up and interject when so many people are quite willing to talk a fool of themselves around him. He has earned his prizes and run through the follys of youth enough that he doesn't feel like he should act the pup anymore. Freewheeling and snarky, Jackson is a decent sort, even if his morality can be quite flexible at times, so more often than not, he tries to do good, but the route to getting there can sometimes be sketchy. If there's a good deal to be made on a shipment, he's happy to agree to it. However, he's also happy to break a few rules so long as it helps getting the job done. Comfortable in his own skin, he's at ease either in a den of thieves or a fancy event for nobility, picking up social cues as easily as a toad picks up warts. Laws are meant to bent, and only broken if nobody is around, but he's just as capable of doing neither so long as it doesn't get in his way. Not one to worry too much, usually thinking that things will 'work out', and when his talking fails, his sword tends to be a good backup. As rough as his life has been, he's never let it keep him down or make him bitter, and would rather have a good time than let things he's done or had to do eat at him. If there's a bowl of fresh fruit she'll lament the tragedy that it is unpeeled, and if someone peels the fruit she'll request it also be cut in bite size, aesthetically pleasing portions. Ennettia is, in short, never one to skimp on her own comfort. Words like vain, lazy, narcissistic, self-indulgent and spoiled are scattered before her in a reputation only a Lycene would admire. And yet she's charming despite - or because - of her honesty in regards to her pampered nature. If there was a single word to describe Fortescue, it would be haughty. For several years he kept people at a distance by being generally aloof, nonchalant, detached, thinking that was how he needed to be to be successful. He was raised to follow the rules and be deferent to nobility, both of which he mostly still does. However, recently he's been allowing himself to express some humor, and even warmth. Still, he's not likely to hold a baby or an animal unless it is literally his job to do so (sometimes it is literally his job to do so). Mature beyond her years from the start, she demonstrates remarkable temperance and composure at all times, cut only with the sweetness and joyfulness of one truly treasured by her family. A pall was cast over the joy and light Ailys once exuded, however, since the Sack of Bastion. But both are still there, with new underpinnings of steeliness. If someone else isn't feeling quite so chatty, she's happy to fill in the gaps for them. She adores meeting and befriending people from all across Arvum and all parts of society, and has a particular penchant for inquiring about others' interests. She has her own spin on the family business, in that she particularly enjoys investing in people and derives considerable joy from simply watching somebody's project come to fruition. Still, it is most certainly still business, and for all her bubbliness and generosity of spirit, there is a shrewd undercurrent to Phoebe when it comes to finance. There is no need to become heated over trivial things. His easy going nature is sometimes at odds with the side of him that craves order and symmetry. Ilira Starling unequivocally loves to be Ilira Starling. From the passion and whimsy of her nature to the pure vivacity of her demeanor, she strives to enliven the world around her, for its sake as much as her own. Seamless in her dynamism, she might be quirky and fanciful in one breath and devastatingly sensual in the next or the same. She exults in beauty and luxury of every form, be it the decadence of riches and rarities, or the wonder of artistry, or the euphoria of intimacy--or the act of pampering her hair! Too empathetic and genuine for any true self-absorption, her detriments arise more from insecurity, in herself and in others. There is peril in the sincerity with which she engages people, and she tends to trust too quickly, fantasize too deeply, and idolize too highly, leading her to mini heartbreaks when someone disappoints expectations or shatters illusions. This, at its most adverse, transforms her desperation to see the best into a propensity to see the worst. She can be excessively sensitive, so the simplest misunderstandings or disagreements are liable to throw her off. But never for long. Resilient to the point of defiance, Ilira no longer worries about life breaking her down from the outside; she has been dealt a tragic hand or two and will cheerfully throw her middle finger at anyone here to challenge who she is. Self-confidence is both a strength and a weakness, for outward struggles are easier to defeat than inner fears. Though hers are numerous, she faces each day with her heart in her smile and her soul in her eyes, unconquerable in vulnerability.

Ilira is inclined to skew first impressions. Despite a common status, she comports with a grace and manner that navigates her through the upper echelons. Diplomacy suits her, though a rich wit and authenticity underlies her veneer of eloquent subtlety. While the company of nobles suits her fine, she enjoys equally the grit and revelry of the lower boroughs, known to linger in taverns and wax philosophical until closing time. She is the watchful type at bars, but when a mood strikes, she'll be ready with her lute and her voice, a moment in which she truly comes to life. Her esoteric way rarely fades, save in her three favored elements of music, dance, and sea, in which a goofball whimsy and vivacity emerges to full effect.

Ilira lives, laughs, and loves like she's challenging the world to make her stop. From performance to romance, she pours her soul into all she does, an alchemy of passion and sensuality. She cherishes and radiates her happiness, joyful just to be alive and breathing. Because under all that joie de vivre lingers inklings of pain and fear, the remnants of a time when her heart wasn't so light. Lust for life is her own form of defiance. She will sing, she will dance, she will twine bodies and hearts, and damned if she'll be done before she's dead. But frivolity has never been completely her way. Steel lies at the core of all that fire and sunshine, and she puts herself as purposefully to revelry as she does to duty. Those who come between she and a goal learn her fury, and those who threaten the ones she cares for discover just how hot that fury burns. Friends and family are the most precious. He has a certain reserve about his personal life, a certain reserve about his privacy, but the twinkle of humor will wink out from the depths of that reserve to gleam at people from within. He has a head for figures and tends towards simple, rational, logical solutions, to problems -- but with a measure drawn from his apparently endless and deep wellspring of compassion from inside him. What was insecurity in his youth has become in maturity a wry self-awareness. In quiet moments, he can be a little sad, a little pensive: actually the best word for it is wistful. The hand of his inner kindness is not always so warmly turned to himself as it is to others. Then again, sometimes it's just as amusing to watch them when he actually does. At turns charming, other times biting, Narciso can also prove to be surprisingly insightful and observant, to the great misfortune of those who attracted the ire of the Inquisition. Easy enough on its own, but truthfully the Corsetinas are not always easy to love, and very not easy to protect. Deep down he knows that some might find his family creepy and full of Lycene with less than stellar reputations, much of it earned, and some of them can lack even the most basic empathy, but that's just a hero's challenge to make it work, right? Personable, charismatic, and genuinely warm and kind-hearted, Dino stands out among his Corsetina kin, and even Lycenes in general. But he'll make it work. In a simple pass, Ezekiel is a genial fellow. He is rather phlegmatic, offering little more than a smile, without much of a temper. It is rare that he is anything more than convivial. Footloose and fancy free, he is more than pleased to tell a story, or pass off a tale. Of course, he's lusty and a bit of a drunkard, but he rarely lets such things overwhelm his common sense.

In a word, 'dangerous'. Ruthless and determined, time has done little to dull the sharpness of Prince Donrai's mind or manner. He is prone to succint, even curt answers, with a cool, regal bearing that does not invite easy familiarity and provides little help to House Thrax's dubious reputation. The rare times the wizened old man seems amiable, even friendly, it meets limited success- most assume (correctly, more often than not), that it is not for a reason they'll enjoy.

In a word, Edith is jaded. She's seen a lot in her life, and while some of it is wonderous and fulfilling, so very much more of it is tragic and heartbreaking. She's tired, but she's determined to keep going and do what she can to help. Tired and tireless, somehow. Enduring as the ancient trees of the Grey Forest, willing to shelter and protect those in need.

In a word, Warrick is fatalistic. It's not that he believes in fate, so much as he believes whatever is going to happen will happen, no matter what. Paired with an unlucky streak longer than most baronies, this has left him remarkably unambitious and practically unquestioning. He doesn't believe everything he's told, he just doesn't see the point in trying to force answers out of people. No matter what happens, he accepts his lot in life and moves along. If something good happens? That's great! He'll smile, accept it, and move along.

In a word, Zyn is sanguine. She is boisterous, bubbly, chatty and openly emotional. She's always out on an adventure, playfully seeking something fun worth doing, leading to wild nights and late mornings. Zyn can be a little flighty, however, should something new and shiny catch her eyes. Her emotions run in extremes, often swinging from 'I hate you!' to 'You're the best person ever!' in the manner of seconds, regardless of drama or damage caused by it. She's enthusiastic, with high self-esteem and very easy-going. She's also a lost cause when it comes to things like organization and planning. Why plan the future, when you can experience the now? She's also very tactile. Just be warned: there may be hugging involved.

In a word, severity. This is very little give in this Oathlands Knight. As rigid in posture as he is in adherence to the principles of Chivalry and Honor. He is the epitome of a Knight of the West, fulfilling the stereotypes in both positive and negative ways. He is polite to all, in a gruff sort of way, formal and exacting in his expectation of the manners of those around him. He will be the first to defend the defenseless (should they be on the right side of the law) and the last to leave the field of battle, exacting the last drop of payment from the enemy and defending the rest of his brethren. He is a hard man, but his loyalty is stronger than steel and like honor, never bends.

In a word: unpredictable. Skald is much like a big cat - not like a big house cat, but like a panther - prone to prowling, sprawling and draping his lanky form wherever he likes. Unconcerned with either social conventions (or concepts such as personal space or property), he is unhurried and completely unselfconscious, happy to appropriate any space he occupies for exploration or simple lounging. Skald is an amalgam of contradictions; he is old enough to hold true, deep wisdom, and yet fractious enough to act without consulting it. He does have some traits that can be pinned down. He likes a good time, his boredom often turns dangerous, and he is - in general - in favor of freedom. For everyone.

In a world of extremes, Gwenna prefers to avoid them. Averse to butting heads but not to friendly debate, she approaches life in a slightly wry way, and she has learned to tilt and skew and weave her way around many clashes of strong personalities, declawing nastiness before it gets too sharp. She'd rather a chilled white wine than a whiskey and she'd prefer a book and a hot cocoa to a bar fight. Some roar and swing an axe, or sing out loud with passion and verve; Gwenna would like to crack jokes by the fire while she does a little light tapestry and shares local gossip. Warm, compassionate, pleasant, affectionate, tolerantly appalled by political disaster: she is a quietly clever woman with a warm smile, a muting foil to the brash and the bombastic. Open-hearted and open-minded, she is interested in the world around her, open to the Faith of the Pantheon and to shamanism, to mystery and to legend -- not a staunch believer, but a suspecter, willing to entertain most possibilities.
