At other times, he can be personable and warm, a master storyteller, who can draw his listeners into foreign lands or times not their own, to taste victory on their lips, or feel the weight of silver coins passing through their fingers. The nature of his speech is also as mutable as the sea. He can be formal, even eloquent in the courts of Velenosa or Arx, or spit the most vile and base curses with the lowliest of cutthroats. He makes good on his word and adheres to propriety in the public eye, reserving anything but the most proper and formal presentation of himself to those closest to him. He is a sure and soft-spoken man who chooses his words and tone with purpose. He savors life's indulgences and denies himself little, but never to excess or beyond the means of his purse. He enjoys the quiet company of his animals - a veteran warhorse and a three-legged retired war hound - almost as much as people. He is never unduly cruel, but does not shy from harsh truths; a velvet glove over an iron fist. The one place this all breaks away and he personifies the lion the Saiks are often likened to is with a sword in his hand and blood in the soil.

  On the surface, Cecilia exemplifies what happens when an innocent golden child goes "bad"; she's more Lycene than the Lycenes, doing what she wants, when she wants, and the reasoned voices around her begging her to slow down can fuck right off. She drinks like a Kennex, flirts with whoever she pleases, and generally leads a life of excess, all in an attempt to numb herself to the pain of a tragic childhood's end. But it's not just fashion sense and sexuality that Cecilia picked up during her time in the Lyceum, and while at least some of her 'I'm mad at the world, so let's have a party' attitude is rooted in genuine feeling, she's a lot more astute than she pretends to be. Intelligent, educated, and calculating, she can see how their insistence on playing by the rules has hurt her family, and she's determined to advance their interests (and protect her nephew, who is the only person who really matters to her right now) by doing what they can't. If she can have a great time doing it, all the better.

  On the surface, Evander is a calm, centered man, soft spoken and too weak to fall prey to the throes of strong emotion. A lot of his sickness is in his lungs, such that he can never catch his breath well enough to raise his voice, and in most things, he's happy to go along to get along, letting the tides of life take him to and fro as they will. Never a well man even when he's not ill, he's learned to accept the limitations of his body and to work around them as best he can. For someone who doesn't know him well, this frail exterior is all they'll ever see, and it's enough for a lot of people to dismiss him. But under the faded velveteen glove, there's an iron will and a mind like a steel trap. Evander has faced death more than once in his young life, and the experience has given him a sense of perspective far beyond his years, which is why he generally doesn't let the little things bother him. But in situations where something that he sees as important is at stake, he shows himself to be uncompromising and almost totally without fear. When it comes time to take a stand, this frail wisp of a man will dig in his heels and good luck moving him.

He's actually quite smart, and it makes his humor worse. He knows how brutal the world is around him, and there's few things that are solvable through peaceful means however much he wishes that was the case. Joy is a thing to be taken away, but some part of him seeks it out, nonetheless. He tries to keep his distance from people, because if he doesn't, they get hurt, one way or another. That doesn't keep him from finding friends though. Some are well meaning, others seek to use his skill and ferocity. In the end, none of it matters, even if part of him wants it to, desperately, in the vain hope to become a better man.

Her passion for the truth, and the sharp blade of her intellect can cut as deep as her family's swords. Her words are few, but tend to be as effective as they are succinct. She prefers the company of one or two at a time, never feeling quite at ease in addressing a crowd despite a winsome voice and appearance. Her intellect rules her, rather than her emotions, but she still feels them deeply and intensely. She has a great deal of confidence outside of social settings, trusting in herself and in her work, but she simply feels no need to force feed it upon anyone. The truth is its own power, its own strength, and she simply makes the truth as clear as she can to others.
