In all of Arx, few are as capable of surprising someone making first impressions as Dagon. He looks so much like his grandfather, many fear angering him from the moment they meet him. Quickly, they find that the young heir recalls the old ways of chivalry and nobility rather than the brutal ruthlessness House Thrax is known for. He is quieter than one would expect, choosing his words carefully for maximum effect, focused on bettering those around him and defending the defenseless, and leaving things better than he found them. He works hard at it, humble and focused, always careful to keep his emotions in check. He eschews deception and corruption, favoring to be the better man whenever possible. He doesn't seek attention, even if it naturally comes to him, simply wanting to lighten the hearts and minds around him. He is not weak, even if many whisper behind his back, but he feels no need to display strength in brutish and unnecessary ways.

In battle he was cold, calculated and cunning. Tactics were his weapon of choice and his leadership skills were unmatched, however things have changed and he now blames himself about his past. His confidence has dropped and he no longer believes that he is capable or deserves anything. He tries not to start trouble but he often ofends people without realizing or meaning to. He finds it hard to make friends but the friends he does make are friends for life and he will never betray them.

In certain realms of mysticism, Jian might be considered tied to the element of water. She travels steadily forth, seeking to go around impediments so that she might continue her course. Where there's no path of least resistance she begins to pool up against the impediment and wear it down. And where there is no time or ability to wear it away, Jian becomes the torrent, ready to drill through even stone to make her way forward again. But most of the time she is the placid water, still and calm; reflective.

In first meeting, Enid is a stoic woman. She emits an underlying hesitance to engage, social barriers built as high as the guard walls of Stormheart. In her is incapsulated all the best and worst traits of a survivor. She is quick to her own defense, cynical to take up the defense of others. Secretive, even with nothing to hide, and prone to bouts of excessive joviality and deeper depressions. A life in service to coin at the tip of a spear has robbed the young woman of much and instilled in her a taste for mindless violence and a hunger for ill-defined freedoms. She is rabble, without origin or loyalty, and where the chaos of this lifestyle takes her is fine enough a destination.

In her whole life, friends and family have never known Lumen to speak ill of anybody or anything -- not only merely by virtue of the political adroitness that she does possess, but out of sincere good-will. To the great disappointment of her naysayers, her charms are cut with an air of integrity that few possess. On her best day, she is like a much-beloved governess imposing her will gently and patiently upon her charges. In many ways, Nanette is much like the portraits that she paints - on one hand, she is the finished product, a quiet beauty to be admired by others. On the other hand, she's the fiery, passionate and messy stages in between not-started and complete. There's the Scholar, the highly educated and ever-hungry mind of a near-perfect Thraxian woman. She is pragmatic woman who works tirelessly to fill her mind with knowledge to the point of near-obsession, though she would call herself focused. There is a quiet intensity about her at all times, like she's in a permanent state of holding something back. This would be the Artist. A woman of many passions and an unrelenting lust for life. Hedonistic and always on a quest for more. When let out, Nanette is prone to bursts of Artist's Fury, yet just as prone to flashing a toothy, youthful smile that takes over her whole face, complete with crinkled nose, pinched-shut eyes and raised cheeks. And she's the woman to whom, on her quest to get to know somebody fully, nothing is too immoral or off-limits. She will find the buttons she needs to push to see true despair, violent anger, unadulterated passion - and she will push them. While these two sides are deliberately kept separate, they are certainly not mutually exclusive, and Nanette's best work often comes when the two sides work in harmony.

In most aspects of the woman's life, Joscelin is loud. She can project those swear words like arrows, and no one is immune. Efficient, proud of her work, she will tolerate no silly business when it comes to being professional. At least, initially. She'll make her own judgement calls if the need arises, but her world is mostly confined to her life and her trade. Stubborn, compassionate to a fault, she often bites off more than she can handle but is the last person to admit it. Flying off the handle, she's often one to act first and think later. While this usually serves her well, either by luck or design, it doesn't work all the time, and sometimes even gets her into trouble.

Very little rouses his sense of humor, but he's not without a shadow of it, only that it is kept behind cracked lips and aloof looks. It is easy to mistake these uninvolved and unassuming ways as if facets to a more shallow and fragmented character, but it is not the case. This has often seen him written off as a broken man, a possible bandit, a thief, a criminal, the greatest evil. Below the mystery is instead just a soul of waning enthusiasm and low spirits, with a negative grip on the reality of the world... and yet, where he walks, the atmosphere feels the more oppressive. As if accompanying him was some unseen burden at constant odds with any attempt at lasting merriment in him. None of his noble roots yet remain, all manners and etiquette have long since faded in the briny deep. His accent's yet Thraxian, his vocalization still harsh and caustic with a rugged depth, but when he speaks, it is evocative in gesticulation to the listless man left within him.

In some ways, Ryhalt Farshaw is exactly what is thought of when it comes to the Farshaw family of Westrock Reach - Spirited, adventurous, curious, finding a joy in travel, and having a mind for trade. In other ways, he is not what people have come to expect from his family. Namely in that he is diligent, personally courageous, and has a streak that some might call 'spitefully cunning'. He is an avid reader, though does not consider himself a scholar, and enjoys fine things in the form of clothing, art, precious things, food and wine, but always manages to remind himself that these are fringe benefits and not the goal itself. He is also ambitious, wishing to pull House Farshaw out of its languor caused by being an island hold with no navy, forced to rely on the goodwill of neighbors for their defence.

In spite of her rather soft appearance, there's a sharp, eager mind behind her coquettish winks and easy smiles. Mateline has been waiting essentially her whole teenage life for the moment she has now and does not intend to waste it. While outwardly friendly and warm, she can be harshly critical and spiteful and holds a grudge easily. She is especially hard on herself, often spending hours berating herself in her journals or diaries when she believes she's made a mistake. There IS genuine warmth to her, but she tries to make it hard to get at--if she's weak, she's certain that someone, somewhere will try to take what her family has built. Because of this, she must be hard and not allow herself to feel or show too much genuine emotion. Of course, that's much easier said than done when you're eighteen.

In spite of his rather serious nature, Ingvar tends to act (and react) before thinking a lot of the time, relying on instinct over pondering the correct course of action. There are notable exceptions, such as violence. While he might engage in sparring, when it comes to a real fight, he lacks the casual approach that many Mourning Islanders take to such matters. He also has a keen interest in what lies beyond the horizon, and finds himself fascinated by stories of the lands outside of Arvum.

In the Greenwood Forest, Neve was always known as a bright, smiling, bubbly girl of whimsical nature. When she ran through the forest, the sun shone just a little brighter, the wind blowing through the boughs a little more talkative. They seemed to give just a bit more shade in her wild, wondering presence. Grown now, she wears her heart on her sleeve, filled with whimsy, love, and a curious nature borne from the dichotomy of her upbringing, blending the wildness and abandon of the forest into the refined echelon of the cities. There are moments when Neve longs to retreat back to that bastion of greenery, when the city is foreign and overwhelming, the customs to learn abundant. But inevitably, the daughter of the forest finds some new spark of joy in refinement, some solace in a quiet place, some understanding of family and home, and her unquenchable spirit is renewed.

Courteous and polite, as a proper Telmar noblewoman ought to be, Tesha shows an uncommon ambition and drive when she applies her considerable intelligence to solving problems of politics, strategy, or economics. People seem to either love him or hate him, and this is usually colored by whether or not he is on their side. He's a man who covers his doubts and fears with wit and sarcasm, often creates his own rules when the actual rules don't suit him, and never gives up even when the stakes get high enough to turn most back. Keen, intelligent, and liberal in his sexual relations -- Ira possesses an independence of spirit, mind, and soul that only educated commoners might have... until they are slapped down by their noble lords, and reminded that they are, of course, common. Free from the trappings of responsibility, he pursues whatever philosophical fancy catches his mind at the moment -- and they are multitude. Of course, this might often be seen as only petty and selfish narcissism. What honest, good man has no family, no prospects, and occupies himself with funny experiments all day? But beneath that flighty exterior, concealed behind the sparkle of her eyes, there is a thoughtfulness, a shrewdness even; a hint of mystery. She can give off an air of the most exquisite elegance and grace when she puts her mind to it, and she's capable of surprising people with both words and deeds, to the point where no one can say just why she does what she does sometimes. Is he brilliant or imbecilic? Is he of fantastic manner or exceedingly irreverent? Jev is a polarizing individual: people tend to hate him or love him. His flights of fancy, odd misjudgements and spontaneous outbursts are often considered either endearing or grossly inappropriate and annoying. Always finicky and seldom serious. Or is he being serious? His eccentrism nearly makes him a parody of himself. Those intrepid enough to get to know him, however, tend to learn something else.

Isabeau knows what happens to heroes - they die - and she has determined never to be one. No, Isabeau sees no need to take up arms and shield in defense of honor - there's enough of that among her people. Instead, she gives them something to champion. That's not to say Isabeau is a reckless woman, and certainly not a helpless one. But she's not at all averse to playing a damsel in distress if it can get her what she wants, and she's not ashamed to rally her chivalrous acquaintances against necessary targets with some true ruthlessness, at times. Some of it is smarts, she sees the courtly games for what they are and plays to win for the good of what family she has left. There's also a part of her that simply enjoys the feeling of power she gets when she wins someone to her side or influences someone to do what she wants, all while remaining a kind and loving woman.

Iseulet carries herself with the regal poise of a Queen though there are some that would say more like a cat. They might not be wrong, as there is definitely something about the way she moves that evokes leonine temperance and grace. This capricious nature is moderated by a coquettish disposition, a wicked wit, and sharp sense of humor. Recent years in Arx have worn away her cynicism and polished her rough edges to reveal her as a sophisticated woman. Looking past her outward charm, many find that she has a surprising mind for numbers and business, her intelligence parallel to her beauty.

Ishmael is someone who is eager to help out. He takes a great deal of pride in his work and his ability to be of use to those that he serves. He is always polite, though not above giving his own opionion. Still, even in disagreement he is able to maintain a level of respect. Ishmael has spent a great deal of time serving the nobility, so his manners are more polished then the average commoner but he still does not step out of line.
