A clever turn of phrase can make all the difference to a memorable social encounter or a lucrative trade deal, and sometimes it can turn one into the other. Facts and figures are Isobella's trade, whether they refer to the prices of luxury goods by day, or who wore them best that evening. Cunning like a well-fed fox, hers is a seemingly indolent savvy that would graciously sell you the shirt on your own back. Twice.

A comically humorless man, Count Philippe will never be loved by his vassals, a love he neither expects nor requires. His reputation as grim, unyielding, merciless, completely indifferent to frivolity, and callous are well deserved, but the the old warhorse has the respect of his vassals for his meticulous diligence, relentless devotion to fair (if harsh) rule, unflinching honor and unwavering sense of duty to his subjects as well as his liege. Among family it is said he shows a different, carefully hidden warmer side, with a caring devotion as a loving father. Completely untrue, though. The rumor just started because no one wants to believe someone is -always- like that.

A courtier is never wicked, but Larissa didn't quite get that notice. Never inappropriate, but always on the edge of scandal, the Whisper enjoys the game of skirting the line. She revels in the dance of her profession, enjoying setting the trends in fashion and hair, being an example of all a good courtier should be, and tempting and taunting all who cross her path, testing their resolve as they try to resist her siren song. Never cruel, she prefers to take advantage of her station in life, careful never to go too far and cause unforgivable offense.

A creature of dualities, those who meet Mydas will typically encounter a charming and polite man, a proper gentleman of society with knowledge of the finer things of life, as well as being a connoisseur of the arts. Acquaintances, associates and even friends will often know nothing more about the man, kept at arm's length and in thrall of his persona. Those truly close to him, however, know to discern the warm mask from the glacial, quiet man that wears it.

A descendant of the youngest sibling in the family which was to hold Westrock Reach, Alise was given a lofty name, modeled on that of Alarice, but instead has grown up only distant cousins from those in the line of succession. This has given her a bit of prickliness about her heritage, making her proud but simultaneously uncertain of her own worth in some lights. She holds a grudge, and polishes it like some might steel. She is quick to laugh and cry, her emotions worn on her sleeve. With minor slights, she can be incredibly forgiving, but anything that reflects poorly on her personal sense of honor is unforgivable. She has a good sense of humor, but dislikes "mean" jokes. She is devoutly faithful, and has a tendency toward charity, when it doesn't infringe on trade.

A determined laborer. He shows compassion to those around him and enjoys helping the needy. He prefers listening to speaking and carries himself with humility. He is very observant and likes to anylize problems before deciding how to deal with them. He moves at his own pace and is rarely in a hurry. In conversations he is patient and willing to listen to others.

A dour, reserved man, Jourdain Wyrmguard listens a great deal and speaks comparatively little. This is perhaps reflective of a personality which prefers to observe, process, and think about the knowledge he gains from the world around him in great depth before coming to any conclusions. Many people would call this kind of person "humorless," but Jourdain is not without his own brand of humor; it's just so dry that most of the time it flies by unnoticed as humor at all. Typically calm and even-tempered, he is difficult to ruffle, though it is an open question whether that indicates deep bravery and valiance, or simply a chronic lack of desire to get worked up about most trivial matters. He seems like the sort of person who continually has "more important things on his mind," which inclines the answer towards the latter.

A flighty young woman with half a brain, or perhaps slightly less than half. She enjoys books, but rarely finds herself reading them all the way through. She also tends to forget the stories, so it doesn't really matter if she finishes them anyways. She is somewhat clumsy, has a bad taste in fashion, and is generally tone deaf, but despite her odd qualities and grim life, she is pleasant enough. She is generally in good spirits, and has a refreshing air of whimsical innocence to her. If kindness and enthusiasm were admirable qualities, she would have a rating of 10 out of 10, but they aren't. If she were a peasant she would have been food for the wolves, but luckily the girl was born into a noble family, so instead she is food for the mindless politics of noble houses.

A former scholar who's trying to live up to the ideals of knighthood. Serapion is trying to follow the virtues of the Pantheon while also staying true to his heritage. Serapion understands well the notion of pragmatism and that the right thing is not always the smart thing to do. However, because he lacks practical experience as a knight, he tends to look to the past for the answers. Serapion's inexperience also leads him towards caution, which is easy to mistake for cowardice. He hunts for knowledge and dreams of a keep filled with history books that he can spend the rest of his days in. But he's got a long way to go.

A free-spirited and passionate individual, Amelia can just as easily be seen in the setting of a Velenosan banquet as a Lower Boroughs tavern. Those that know her better might spot a certain cold calculation behind her amber eyes, and learn she can occasionally act ruthlessly towards those beneath her command. Ultimately, she thrives in a leadership role, and lives to achieve her ambitions.

A friend might call Luca "easygoing". A casual observer would call him lazy. Possibly also unmotivated, unimpressed, and in need of a new shirt. In truth, he's bored to the point of despondency. It's not like he's a depressive, he still has his hobbies. Like giving in to his intense need for a drink after another easily-won duel. He just finds it hard to get worked up about things. He has a good sense of humor, and a good heart. His laissez-faire manner means he very rarely gets truly angry, even when being insulted. He's easy to be around, if not the most dependable friend.

Rodor is well educated and thus understands that language and social interaction is just as important as the ability to weald a blade. He has spent a considerable amount of time travelling the roads and thus has a good knowledge of how to conduct ones self in the company of people of all social stances. A gentle soul, kind, quiet and serene, it marks Jenessa as a stark contrast to other members of her family, given the typical dourness oft possessed by the majority. Despite the hardships encountered, she's less hardened, but takes life seriously, knowing at any time it could be over. It's given her the mindset of living each day as if it were her last, appreciating the good things when they come - while still expecting the worst - and enjoying life to the fullest with no regrets. She's scholarly and bookish, more at home in libraries and educational institutions than on the battlefield, but when duty calls? It's when the traditional Lyonesse peeks through. Neither warrior nor socialite, she's not particularly socially adept; rather, she's terribly awkward and - at times - painfully shy when it comes to people. She carries a passion for travel and exploration, of learning and acquiring knowledge, and with it comes her desire to experience all the world has to offer - until bad luck rears its ugly head.

A gentle woman, soft of voice, with infinite patience for the misguided and unfortunate among the people, though very little for the foolish and the prideful. A shrewd observer, and slow to forget, she is not one to push conversation on others, often waiting for them to seek counsel with the faith, unless her counsel is so desperately needed that she cannot bear to sit and watch. Very little will shake her calm, as she finds peace within her faith, and her faith is unwavering. Always polite and formal in public, though has been known to be quick to scold the foolish, when it comes to private counsel.

A gregarious nature hides something a little darker, a recklessness that could potentially cause worry in some of the more conservative of his brethren. He is personable enough in situations where it's both expected and demanded of him to be, yet outside of such he's more reserved and slow to show his true feelings. Dedicated to family and fealty, he takes his Oaths quite seriously. Some might argue that because he takes them so seriously, that they provide him an excuse to take risks that many would feel were too unnecessary.
