Known by some, Hulvaster Hagelin is the son of Ake Hagelin, a recently passed Abandoned turned Prodigal then content stonemason in the city of Arx. His mother, Viktoria Sandin, a disciple of Vellichor and scholar with a particular inclination towards the natural world and the formation of the land. The two wed not long after Ake arrived in Arx and began to readjust his life within the borders of the Compact. Ake's point of origin had always been a tight-lipped secret, and was always referred in passing as 'a closed chapter'. Hulvaster, for his entire life, knew only the streets of Arx and the surrounding countryside. His father was preoccupied with tending to older buildings in the quarter he lived in, and so for much of his childhood, he joined his mother in her scholarly pursuits - seeing much of the coast and lands around Arx, being privy to knowledge in abundance. By the time Hulvaster turned 23, his father had passed from an unfortunate work-related accident. A 'violent but quick death' it was called. Now with the one link to a history still unlearned, Hulvaster resides in a city that becomes less and less familiar to him, and a world unknown to him beyond the walls of Arx calling to him.

Pallid skin near matches the platinum blonde, shoulder-length locks that fall loosely across his face. Much of Hulvaster's face is sharp, hawkish; a nose that juts out pointedly, deluge blue eyes forever squinting, and a trained but jagged smile. He seems well-kept, for the most part, his face with a cleanly shaved beard and adorned in basic, plain garb that marks him as comfortably nondescript. He has the build one would expect of a man entertained solely by books; lithe, but not wiry, slender but far from elegant.

Curiosity swells beneath Hulvaster's features that appears often buried beneath a reserved composure and measured poise, a taught habit of humbleness that does not seem to want to stick despite all his effort to make it so. Much of his 'humbleness' and his reserved nature feels forced, seeming torn between self-importance brewed from hermitage and of societal expectations. Beneath that facsimile of an identity, Hulvaster can be a dry but not humorless man, colored by spouts of cheerfulness and cynicism, sometimes both strangely intermixed.
