Description

Just over 6'6 and built something like a pit fighter. He has the good looks to go with it too, a firm jaw and a short length beard to give him that 'wild and rough' look. Long brown hair with lighter streaks falls around his face and well past his shoulders, it's wild and tangled as if he just got out off of a fast sailing vessel. He looks every bit the part of a bad boy, a half smile that always seems to be on his lips, almost a smirk as if everything is amusing to him. His dark blue eyes gaze hungrily around him, intense and soulful.

Personality

Gruff and serious, Ahrsen does not take crap from anyone, noble and commoner alike. He is not overly friendly with anyone, strangers will betray you and friends are even more likely to do so. The big man is all about intimidation, size and speaking few words. This Laconic attitude serves him well, allowing him time to negotiate conversations and to avoid conflict. Despite his size and rough exterior, he is not rash or quick to anger.

Background

Ahrsen of House Damane was a prince at his birth. He was born as a son to an Abandoned king who ruled a tiny island to the south. Expansion pushed larger houses outwards, and those, in turn, pushed smaller houses even further out. What was once his kingdom became someone else's barony before he was old enough to walk? The little prince's mother would sing to him at night and tell him stories of his kingdom and what he would have claimed before the forces of Thrax forced them out of power and made them bend the knee. They were promises that he was more than just a man and it has stuck with him since that time. Now the name of House Damane is a tiny footnote in the history of Avrum and Ahrsen is no longer a prince, not one with a title anyway.

Having fled their little island the boy and his mother grew up in relative peace until he came of age. It was around the age of 14 or 15 that Ahrsen begins to show an interest in a sailors life. He threw in with pirates early on and soon was sailing the clear blue waters of the south seas and raiding. It was easy to get him to enjoy it, only the hated banner of the Usurper house was needed, and then that ship became a target. After some time he moved on to more prominent and more wealthy targets. The enemy was no longer the Usurper's house, but the house of all those that associated with them.

Within a matter of years, he soon had a ship of his own and a loyal crew. His title as former prince soon caused him to be dubbed the Prince of Pirates. His silent, brooding nature and short way of speaking garnered a fair amount of loyalty and respect from his crew, and they were feared in those waters. Feared and respected, for despite the ruthless way in which they attacked and took what they wanted, they rarely murdered indiscriminately and seldom took slaves. The captain was in it for the money and glory, nothing more. If it were not for the murderous rage that lived deep in his heart, there would probably have never been any killings, but occasionally that beast escaped.

As a pirate captain, Ahrsen learned more things than the art of sailing and combat. He learned things like music and poetry, things he had no skill at but grew on him. A love of animals, wildlife, and art also entertained his thoughts. All these things were as much a part of his adventures as they were the upbringing by his mother, a dispossessed queen. His mother passed shortly after his 20th year but not before giving him the one item that signifies his station, the ring made for the King of House Damane. Ahrsen realizes a kingship is likely never to be his again, but perhaps a barony might give him back some of what he lost.

Unfortunatly his pirate experience soon drew attention. The larger houses banded together to try and bring down the sudden surge of piracy in the south. Rather than fight to the bitter end or be captured and imprisoned, Ahrsen and his crew sold their ship, disbanded most of the crew and then purchased a new one. In that vessel, they sailed to Arx with plans to take pirating closer to the capital. For now, they have been raiding Abandoned and doing mercenary jobs, but the Captain is just waiting for the right time to take in a big haul.
