Description

(he/they) Dalsam is a short person with warm, medium brown skin. They have dark brown eyes and a wiry build. Their black hair is thick and curly, and they wear it long and in a ponytail. His voice is low and pleasant, and he tends to speak rather softly. He walks with a slight limp. He has long, deft fingers, often inkstained. Altogether, though, their appearance isn't especially unusual; they prefer to go unnoticed in a crowd.

Personality

Dalsam often seems bored. With his dry tone and flat, level stare, he rarely appears interested in anything. He has an air of general world-weariness; you'd think him a person who's lost all passion for everything. Despite this, he's eloquent, though not especially charming. In spite of their outward demeanor, Dalsam is a very opinionated person. In the right circumstances, they'll show a more passionate side. They enjoy talking and debating; while they don't often show it, they can hold their own well in an argument. And their writing is often deeply emotional, ranging from melancholic to angry to loving. It's been a long while, though, since they've published any of it.

Background

Dalsam was born to a pair of wealthy merchants under House Grayson. They were the youngest of four siblings, and as the quietest of them, their parents rarely paid Dalsam any mind. He spent much of his childhood reading. As he grew, he left the house more. He was naturally curious, talking with all sorts of new people. He picked up writing around this time, obsessively telling stories about what he'd seen. He began to publish his works, and his parents remained content to leave him to his own devices. However, it was around this time that Dalsam began to get into trouble; they'd developed a disregard for the rules of polite society. After a series of scandals - notably, publishing a vulgar satire about the Crown - their parents took notice. They disowned Dalsam, effectively leaving them an exile. In the time since, they've been homeless, traveling around Arvum without much purpose.
