Description
Adriel is a man of warring impressions: rugged good looks tamed by neat grooming and a nearly religious adherence to a baby-smooth shave; his rangy height and muscular strength gentled by elegant sartorial choices. His hair is midnight-dark, kept clipped short with regimental regularity. His skin is warmly tan, making the pale clarity of his green eyes all the more striking.
Personality
Though Adriel is inclined to hold himself at a social remove, his earnest decency blossoms past his guard. Candor is a lure for him. Little is more attractive than the outspoken, though he generally tries to keep himself more bottled up. Honor is his ideal, and order is his watchword. These in conjunction can lead him to an approach to life that is overcautious, even overthinking. He is a planner, a thinker, and sometimes the ‘doing’ can pass him by, and he can find himself left behind, watching what should have been his life drifting by past him. The romantic dreamer buried deep behind those pale, clear eyes might only rarely see the light of day, but he’s surely there, living on unspent hopes.
Background
Adriel was raised, along with his twin sister and best friend, Korka, by parents whose first loyalty was to the Telmars, and that loyalty is generational. But while his twin sister was constantly sticking her nose in things and getting into trouble, Adriel toed the line: a conscientious, well-behaved child, who was only very rarely drawn into hijinx past Korka’s ability to talk them both out of it. An able and attentive listener, he learned quickly at his lessons and served as soon as he was old enough in the forces of his lords’ retainers, learning a spear and shield along with the rules and laws of the regiment.
It was during this stint as a young soldier that he displayed his own knack for keen observation, and found himself detatched to the service of the Telmars as an investigator and orderkeeper. He helped look into murders, banditry, and stranger things yet; his track record as a detective was impressive, especially for so young a man, and he caught the idea of the Duke more than once. It was during the course of this work that he began to encounter things that simply could not be explained away, and his thirst for mysteries both practical and unreal made him a likely candidate for venturing to Arx with Korka when the call came, where he has served as a pocket occultist and focused steward for the Telmars for the past couple of years.
