Thantrel was always more aloof than his peers, usually more interested in tucking his head inside a book than running around with others his age. He had little family growing up, his mother having passed away when he was but a babe, with any other distant relations having long severed ties with his family's house. His father was a minor member of the nobility but spent more time drowning himself in a bottle of ale than being any real kind of father figure to his son. This suited him fine, however, as he was typically more interested in his studies than any other frivolities. When he came of age, he didn't have much of an inheritance to work with but there was enough to provide him with a proper education. Due in large part to a lonely childhood, Thantrel threw himself into his studies and graduated with a strong background in the humanities. He eventually found a position as a royal litigator, spending most of his days reviewing legal documents and making his presence known to the constabulary, who often considered him more of a nuisance than a significant figure in the legal field.

Most people who observe Thantrel in a social setting would consider him extremely uncomfortable and wishing he was anywhere else. Coming across as somewhat awkward and socially inhibited, he demonstrates remarkable insight into intellectual matters, especially as he considers himself an authority on many different scholarly pursuits. When asked whether he's more of a lawyer or a scholar in disguise, he responds with a clear and simple answer. 'Yes'.

Awkward and lacking in the social graces, but usually extremely insightful and eager to lend his intellectual expertise. Thantrel strongly considers himself a life-long introvert and is happy to carry the label. Soft-spoken and awkward in person, he is extremely verbose and long-winded on paper, a trait that his colleagues both appreciate and find mildly irritating.
