Blessed with what many thought was a gentle spirit but a keen mind, Amerigo spent more times in books than he did out in the fields or the sparring ring. His sparring ring was the classroom where he put to shame (and likely is why he earned so many beatings from) his fellow scholars. The son of a wine vintner, his family did not lack for resources. He was able to travel with his father as they hawked the wares of their lands, a full but distant branch of the Pravus family that provided plenty of alcohol for the Pravus family to celebrate with yet, primarily, avoided much of the daily politics though he was present at most important events, and so kept tabs on the family as they did him. As he grew older, he learned the value of his good looks and winning personality. Making friends with the biggest an strongest meant less beatings because, well, why fight when you can have people fight for you. He continues his pursuits and scholarly efforts, learning the skills of counting coin but, moreso, adminsitration and law. He became a sort of wandering magister, resolving disputes and settling matters, an arbiter and judge. And so his quiet life was moving along quite simply until a messenger arrived one day. He was due in Arx, at the request of the Duchess, to stop playing and as the letter said, 'get some real work done.' Considering it had been a while since he saw his cousin, he was a bit surprised by the news but one does not dismiss such a request. So off to Arx he goes.".
