- Zetta Varano + (Anyone who is anyone should know the Varan … Anyone who is anyone should know the Varano family. According to the Varano family, at least. Zetta is the matriarch of the family, having stepped into the role after her cousin recently died. This means that she now controls a small, but profitable, merchant family that has been operating around the Lyceum. They are known for being able to get things from point A to point B, and they are fairly typical when it comes to merchant families. Some might accuse them of being uppity for commoners due to the wealth they tend to flaunt. But despite that, there has never once been any indication that any member of the family has ever stepped foot out of their place. Not even rumors, it seems. Zetta herself is the third child, but the oldest remaining living child, of the previous matriarch of the family. Her mother ended up stepping down when she was having difficulty with her eyes, letting her sister's son take over the family and the business. Zetta, for her part, was married and busy being a mother and simply working as part of the well-run business of the family. She was never being eyed for taking over, never even seemed to want it. Until her cousin abruptly got sick and died. Of course, there were whispers and rumors...but it was proven fairly quickly that her cousin had in fact done the deed to themselves by eating the bad shell fish that came in off one of the boats. Everyone in the family had warned him about it, too. As appropriate, there was mourning as her cousin was well liked by everyone, including her. But business is business, and she stepped into the role. By now her children were old enough to be off on their own adventures, her husband was dead long years ago, and Zetta needed a new adventure of her own to occupy her time.
