So, his fellow merchants have been imposing a "tax" on all the goods heading towards his shop as a punishment. Due to this the Elio family had to cut back. Which left Jason without all the usual conveniences and luxuries he was used to. So while he learned from his father in the day, he would go at night and try to steal from merchant homes of his friends who had started to shun his company. His knowledge of the homes payed of in his first couple attempts and had amassed a small hoard of coin, silverware, and spices. However, Jason became over confident and got himself caught by a house guard in his third attempt. He was about to be struck down before the guard recognized it was him. He was flogged, placed in stocks and crippling fines were placed on him that fell on his family. This ruined the family business. The merchants taking full advantage to outcast his father from the guild. Without the protection of the guild his suppliers quickly raised their prices or threatened to take their goods to another merchant. His father couldn't afford to pay it. Within a couple months the dye shop was no more. Jason's mother died due a sickness that swept through the city that attacked her while she was suffering from heart break and stress. His father disappeared shortly after this, under unknown circumstances. . So Jason was left with nothing but the clothes on his flogged back.
