Description
It's the voice one notices first. Feminine, but strident and penetrating - a warrior's confident tone. It's clear the woman isn't prone to careless laughter or amiable smiles. She's all business. She doesn't swagger, she doesn't need to swagger. She commands her space as a force to be reckoned with. Her blond hair is clipped short in a bob that doesn't care about fashion, just practicality, and her eyes are the grey of stormy seas. While not classically beautiful, she has a certain eye catching appeal that she can't stand. She has a small smattering of scars across her torso and at least three tattoos...somewhere.
Personality
Though she'd never betray it to anyone other than family, Jan is prone to romantic whimsy, despite her the outward image of immovable sternness that she presents. If you ever caught her reading an adventure tale about swashbuckling, you'd probably never live to tell the story.
Background
The niece to the prior marquis , Denholm Kennex, Jan was quite content with her association to the family outside the main line of succession, and attempting to keep a lower profile so she could pursue a calling extremely frowned upon in the Mourning Isles for a woman- learning the sword. Though House Kennex was one of, if not the most, progressive house of the Mourning Isles, she still avoided the spotlight while quietly pursuing a calling that would have seen swift condemnation by the rest of the Isles houses if they knew. Quietly, she served with the Kennex Corsairs.
As a member of the Kennex Corsairs since she was old enough to join, Jan ended up being promoted to General Corsair after seven years of faithful service, neatly coinciding with House Thrax formally announcing that women would now be able to serve in the armies of the Mourning Isles. It was a position she took to like a fish to water. She elevated the Kennex Corsairs from a small militia of the House to a formidable army of the Saffron Chain.
Now, in Arx with a small force of the Corsairs with her, she's come to stand with her family in these dark times.
