A list of all pages that have property "Background" with value "Piero Pravus was entirely too gentle on his baby girl, and many over the years have said that this is exactly the reason that Celeste is the way she is. She had the run of Setarco as a girl, a constantly changing array of tutors (changing because she changed her mind on what she wanted to do with her life, or threw a fit and got rid of them), and a number of failed courtships where the betrothal period ended with the other side walking away from the "impossible" Pravus. Which is not to say that there are no redeemable qualities about the younger sister to the Duchess. She is a devout follower of the Pantheon, and took especially to the practices of the Mirrormasks. It's no wonder, really, with her contrary nature, that she should devote much of her time to the practices of the Thirteenth. Her enjoyment in this form of worship has had her as an active member of the Thirteenth's discipleship from an early age. This would prove to be key to understanding the young Celeste, and something her sister would take advantage of later in life. Beyond that, Celeste proved to be /really/ good at strategy. Chess and checkers gave way to military games, and Celeste consistently found herself capable of winning them. Some encouraged her to become a soldier, to join the military, to get disciplined... but that didn't happen. She has no desire to fight personally. None. When Belladonna began to make her moves and consolidate power in Setarco, Celeste was one of her first attempts. She reigned her free-spirited little sister in and began to use that mind to help maneuver enemies. Celeste may not be ambitious, but she's become devoted to her family and steps up to the plate whenever they have need of her, and it all started with Belladonna. With Setarco taking heavy losses in the battle against the Gyre, Celeste no longer has the option of staying quiet in the sidelines.
