|Description=At first glance Marina is a tiny woman with bright amber eyes and dark brown hair.  She looks easily enough someone you might want to sit down and talk with. When approached however it is clear that the young woman has seen hard work in her life. She has a scar that trails from her left ear down her neck and to her chest and there are many other less frightening scars that mark her body.  Her hands are calloused from years of hard work rigging on ships and scrubbing their decks.

|Description=A short figure crowned by a short cap of dark hair, Marina’s face is writ with scars and lit with a wide, devilish smile. Rarely still, she is a dervish, all fierce strength and sturdy, stocky muscle. Her eyes are a bright, whiskeyed amber, her nose an upturned snub, her lips the softest part of her. A wicked scar lances down the side of her face, from some blade strike that once barely missed her eye.
|Personality=Marina is a kind woman beneath it all but few see that side of her in public.  As a Thrax woman she has had to work hard to prove herself capable of being a Sailor, Soldier, and Leader and so developed a seemingly impenetrable shell around herself. |Background=Marina was born into the Redleaf Barony with her twin sister Ember.  Being in a Thrax Household Marina was treated like her father's property for the first portion of her life.  She fought hard to make it clear to her family that she belonged to no one and fought both the social battle and the physical battles of proving herself.  Eventually, she and Ember found themselves on their own ship, the two of them working well with one another to form a team well known for the work they perform.

Within the last couple weeks their parents both murdered during a small revolt and the Barony passed along to Ember as a result of Max's declaration that woman can now succeed their parents.  Marina and Ember have had to fight to keep the Barony in their control as women, their male family insistent that they can do a better job than any women.  So far they have been successful, having the respect of the women and their men.  They recently followed Darkwater in abolishing laws that pass thralldom down from parent to child.

Description

A short figure crowned by a short cap of dark hair, Marina’s face is writ with scars and lit with a wide, devilish smile.

Personality

Disciplined and firm, Marina has learned the measure of loyalty, and it requires strict adherence to codes of behavior. She values drive and ambition in others as much as she values these qualities in herself, and rewards success and obedience with warmth and return loyalty. Her sense of humor is bright and sharp, never quite abandoning her sense of the ridiculous. Beneath shields of humor and discipline, there is a soft gooey core of almost maternal warmth, a mother hen whose caring is broad and deep. But there is nothing that lures her more than a glimpse of the unknown, and of adventure.

Background

Ember and Marina were born twins, daughtering a father who needed someone to inherit. The politics of the question were always a struggle, and it was always his plan to marry in men for the twins and ensure the continuation of the bloodline. Still, his legacy was very important to him, and both his daughters were aggressively competent, defying convention to learn to fight and sail as well as learn the social politics that were her traditional role. When her father died, he was still daughtered, and while Ember did all she could to hold the land, Marina put everything she had into winning the respect of the sailors and fighting men on the high seas.

She acted as Ember’s lieutenant throughout the power struggle surrounding their ascension to power, her strong right arm, and learned to hold her own with the toughs and seamen who dominated his fleet. It required the support and loyalty of several ships’ worth of men, as well as the discreet support of a number of the older women of the fealty, but when it was done, Marina was strongest captain and support for her sister.

Now that Ember’s rule has been solidified, the initial rebellions against her ascension crushed, Marina is free to roam again, not wholly abandoning the mantle of authority, but still freer to escape and seek adventure than the sister to whom she is entirely loyal.
