Description

Mara Striga is a child of the brightest day of autumn, locks of hair colored like the dying leaves of a mighty forest in rich coppery and auburn tones. Sharp lines and high cheekbones mark her pale, freckled features, her almond eyes wide and amber-colored serving as windows to the young woman's inquisitive soul. Frail of body, Mara is obviously not a physical specimen, her posture bringing airs of the last light of the twilight, something forlorn that glimpses at potential still to unfold.

Personality

Mara is woefully unprepared for what her life has become. Giving and warm of heart, she has never wanted much, the young woman's only dream to see marvels around the world and beautiful dresses. Now her father is lost and she is the last of his line. The memory of his loss is embittering, but more overwhelming than that is the feeling of being faced with insurmountable challenges she is wholly unsure how to tackle. Somehow, however, Mara feels that deep within she has the will to see it through. She doesn't know why, but the gods are good, and she will pull through, with a little help of her new friends.

Background

Mara is the sole heir of the Striga family, a once-famous line of explorers-turned-merchants in the times before the Reckoning which carved for itself a estate in Anaga Island in Ischia. Born sickly and weak, the young girl fought for her life for in her first years, but survived the worst to be her father's pride.

Since the scare, she became her family's most valued treasure, and Mara was treated like a princess in her own small kingdom, even if the protective nature of her father soon became stiffling. Gentle in nature, Mara did not challenge Malthus, and accepted her fate, forever bound to Anaga and only getting glimpses of the world from travellers and sailors.

Years would pass and her father would grow even more hateful of outsiders as his close friends in House Argento were crushed by the young Duchess of Setarco. For most of her life, Mara could only dream of Nilanza, the Silken City and Arx, imagining how it would all be.

Her fate would change in the form of a Pravosi ensemble arriving at their shores to discuss with Malthus rumors that he would be financing the Abandoned pirates of Luciva to hurt Setarcan trade. Confusing at first, the situation soon devolved to utter chaos, as it was revealed a shadowy organization had blackmailed her father into assisting Lucivan pirates against Pravus, an organization deeply infiltrated in Anaga.

As the truth was unearthed, the secretive conspirators struck, killing a number of her family guards and attacking Mara and Lady Beatrice Malespero before a guard of House Pravus named Miguel struck down the would-be assassin. Fleeing in a hurry, she left her father, her home and the life she knew to come to Arx under the protection of Lady Valentina Pravus as her protege.
