Description

Tall and powerfully built, Ferrando possesses an imposing stature that he often tries to offset with an affable personality and a winning smile. His darker, olive complexion and rugged good looks would likely mark him as coming from the southern city states of the Lyceum even without his name or the very common black hair and dark brown eyes shared by many of the Lycene. For a large, muscular man, he moves with a surprising degree of natural grace and carries himself with confident poise.

Personality

Affable, courteous, with a quick wit and jovial sense of humor, many are surprised that Ferrando seems to make as many enemies as he does. He has a strong sense of fairness and justice, reacting quickly and decisively to anything that calls for action... even if sometimes he finds later he might have been better off waiting and thinking things through. He is acutely aware how his physical strength and imposing stature can be intimidating, and would much rather use that to defuse situations than to resort to violence. His positive hatred for bullies sometimes gets the better of him, however, and his anger can catch his friends off guard who know Ferrando to be generous and warm hearted to a fault.

Background

Ferrando really thinks he should learn when to keep his head down, stay out of it, and not get involved. He hates being told that he's a hero, since he certainly doesn't think of himself as one, but he has heard the term bandied about even when he was just another poor commoner growing up in Lenosia. As a teenager and a cadet in the Lenosian Guard, he didn't think of himself as a hero when he saved that merchant from a group of bandits- it was just his job. He didn't think of himself as a hero when he fought a duel to protect a young woman who had accidentally offended a spiteful and dangerous baron, Rand just believes he would have been too guilty if he turned a blind eye to a situation he knew he could help. The more he helped other people, the bigger a hole he seemed to find himself in, and Rand knew it was only a matter of time in Lenosia until one of his immensely irritated enemies decided it was time for payback. So with a little help from relatives living in Arx, he decided to put his troubles behind him and head to the capital.

He hadn't even been in the city for a week when his old habits got the better of him. He knew he should have just kept walking, stayed out of it, but there it was... an arrogant, spurned noble with his guards cornering a courtesan who had politely but firmly rejected the man's coarse suggestions and the irate noble aimed to do something terrible in retaliation to 'the upjumped whore'. Rand berates himself, since he thought it was such a stupid thing to do, but he just can't abide bullies. He feels he just lucked out in the fight that followed that he was neither killed nor arrested (and counts himself fortunate he didn't seriously injure the noble or his men), and was thoroughly embarrassed by the thanks he received and the offer of a job as a bouncer for the Whisper House. He accepted, pays better than the sellsword work guarding merchant caravans anyways.

Ferrando feels he's just a simple man trying to get by, and definitely not a hero, even if some people won't stop saying that about him.
