Description

As the quintessential son of Thrax, Jasher maintains all but perfect mastery over his expressions and physical motions. People see only what he allows them to see, with rare exceptions. There is not an ounce of spare flesh on his lean frame, the sailor's life having shaped a raw, rangy figure into corded strength and athleticism. He is more inclined to frown than smile, but in those rare moments when mirth is unshackled, it touches his eyes: deep, pale beryl, sharp and intelligent framed by dark, well-defined eyebrows. Light stubble accentuates his strong jawline and frames a bold, straight nose that enhances the character of his face.

Personality

Jasher is a conservative man whose taciturn nature has on more than one occasion misrepresented him as witless or arrogant. Those who have expended the time and energy to know him better are treated to a more conversant side of him, one that is somewhat more willing to dispense with his private thoughts and muted, albeit genuine, feelings. His sense of humor is dry, obscured beneath a mask of composure that makes his occasional quip all the more unexpected, and perhaps even more difficult to read. The prince is a layer of impassive control over a hot core of passionate energy that manifests more readily - and creditably - on the battlefield. A fierce warrior, by the book officer and proficient sailor, the prince prefers an active, regimented life and finds himself restless and discontented when separated from structure. In almost all situations, he is unlikely to yield up to a moment's recklessness unless otherwise pushed to the edge, in the absence of any other option.

Background

As the youngest born to a lesser branch of the Thrax family tree, Jasher is far removed from the line of succession. In the aftermath of his parents' execution for treason, he and his four siblings were placed under the protection of their dictatorial grandfather, Donrai Thrax, the late Prince of Maelstrom. Living under his watchful eye meant deriving relief at being overlooked as often as he was, and ultimately contributed to the development of his sharp observational skills and appreciation for structure and certainty. He was more or less left to his own devices, free to discover for himself where he fit into the family and world at large so long as he did not shame his house in the process.

One day, at the ripe age of thirteen, Jasher slipped his house guards in disguise and enlisted to become a cabin boy aboard a trade vessel. Isles lords taking to sailing is hardly unusual, but the prince was far too young, and did so without the explicit approval of his grandfather. When he was eventually located and retrieved, Donrai considered what ought to be done about it. Rather than punish Jasher for his impetuousness, he decided that if the boy would chase the salt so ardently, he should give himself to it in full, but the proper way. Thereafter, he was provided hands-on training aboard a ship so long as he agreed to keep out of trouble and tend to his studies. Each job well done was rewarded with additional opportunities, and in time he grew to be an exceptional sailor and respected leader. While many of his family members moved to Arx upon reaching adulthood, Jasher was justly putting pirates to the sword aboard his own ship, the Sea Drake. What little time he spent ashore was shared with books or family, rarely with strangers. Societal pressures and constraints inherent to nobility have always frustrated him. The prospect of marriage was approached as a grim duty he'd someday be expected to fulfill, yet while there has been no shortage of eligible women, he has never shown an interest in courting them. He rarely entertains romantic overtures in general, but it is common knowledge that he is strictly attracted to men.

Over the years, strong familial ties and lasting friendships inevitably sank their deep hooks into Jasher, and those long periods spent away grew fewer and farther between.Threats of all forms bid him return to support and defend House Thrax and The Compact at large. He is a veteran of the Gyre War, Silent War, the Lodge and the Battle of Pieros Bay. He returned to Arx at a most auspicious time, on the eve of the sacking of Bastion, and the cusp of yet another series of bloody conflicts.
