Arx has a number of systems used in order to pursue plot and story on the game, and the structure and requirements for those systems have changed over time. This guide attempts to keep a simplified, up to date record of how to use the systems and what you can get from what.

This guide will be focused on personal story and will not cover org actions for crises.

Currently waiting on staff to officially confirm all of the below!

Goals

Used to track personal IC progress in any IC goal, large or small. Goals are used for character-specific rewards and do not generate storytelling.

Usage

goal/rfr is used to provide a summary to staff of whatever RP has been made surrounding this goal. Progress does not have to be forward; failures also provide rewards.

Restrictions

goal/rfr once per 30 days.

Current Potential Rewards

  • XP

No Longer Available

  • Stat, skill, or knack increases

Plots

Usage of the plots command system is required for GMing/storytelling (either from Player Storytellers or staff). The code tracks progress and connection of a given storyline as it progresses, allowing you to attach clues, events, flashbacks, actions, revelations, and theories to a given plot. This is required for storytelling so that all information is connected in one place for GMs.

Usage

Used in conjunction with #PRPs or #Actions in order to receive storytelling and/or rewards.

PRPs

Player-run plots. Used to receive live storytelling from Player Storytellers. Current Player Storytellers can be found using the stlist command. Public inquiries for player storytelling should be made on the PRPs bboard.

Player STs use the plots/rfr command to request rewards for involved PCs appropriate to the plot's level.

Current Potential Rewards

Dependent on plot's risk level. Focused on tangible rewards:

  • Silver
  • Resources
  • Materials
  • Vox updates
  • Org emits
  • Fame
  • Legend

No Longer Available

  • Domain rewards

Actions

Used to receive written storytelling and rewards from staff.

Restrictions

Must be narratively significant. Not used for basic yes or no storytelling questions.

One action per player per story episode. The current episode can be found by checking the Story Updates bboard. Once a new episode begins to appear on the posts there, a new story episode has begun. Story episodes are of variable length, and their changeovers are not timed or planned.

Personal actions may be used on crises if desired.

Attachment of a plot is required to submit a personal (non-crisis) action.

Current Potential Rewards

  • All PRP rewards
  • Staff-written story responses
  • Domain rewards
  • New material creation
  • Crafting recipes for new materials*

* Recipes for new materials requires tracked and extensive RP effort following a material's creation and will require an additional action following the creation of a new material. New materials can still be used as adornments on existing recipes before that time.

Storytelling

Action responses will most often be resolved in written format. Staff may choose to conduct live storytelling for a personal action at their discretion, most often for actions with wider metaplot impact involving multiple PCs. There is no mechanical process for requesting live staff GMing.
