Charles was born the daughter and only child of a low-ranking noble officer. Without a male child to serve as heir, his position would fall vacant upon retirement; and thus, Charles was obligated from a young age to pursue masculine activities. This upbringing was controversial, lending itself to conflicts within his house. He took poorly to the courtly education of a noble child, never holding still long enough to complete his lessons. As such his reputation among the court is not a respected one. By his teenage years, however, his prowess in battle assuaged many fears of his ability. He has since lived publicly as a man without disguising his birth, and has distinguished himself as a competent warrior and tactician on the front lines. He has sought to prove himself through martial service ever since.

Charles gives the impression of a growing boy; his narrow face, small jaw, and high cheekbones look more in-line with a young student. On closer inspection, his femininity is apparent; small features contrast his otherwise sturdy frame, which is more befitting of a soldier or laborer. He is otherwise plain and unexceptional in appearance, an otherwise forgettable face in a crowd, facial features arranged in a typical fashion being attractive nor unattractive. Despite his softness of appearance and the long hair curling down around his shoulders, and though lacking in grace and nobility, he holds himself with the practiced confidence appropriate of a young man of action.

Charles is known to be mercurial in his actions off the battlefield, and to question most of his decisions as well as those of others. He is prone to challenge others both physically and otherwise when threatened. It has earned him a well-deserved reputation of being petty and disagreeable, his antagonistic streak marring his place in proper society. He is known for his intense and tumultuous relationships with others, friends, partners, and allies alike; he is known for exaggerated feats of vainglory in all aspects of life. It is difficult to keep on his good side for long. However, he is loyal to those close to him. To those he perceives as deserving, he is generally fair and frequently compassionate.
