Description

Hard, chiseled, stoney? In the Lower Boroughs few use these to describe a statue or the walls, as much as they use them to describe Chanse Greyhope. Handsome, in an utterly terrifying way, his skin is criss crossed by more scars than most companies of soldiers. His black eyes are flecked with gold, and never show any humor at all, even when he flashes a charming grin. His arms and hands are made for violence, bulging muscles and calloused fingers, looking more natural balled into fists than washing glasses. He towers over most, with broad shoulders and barrel chest that can intimidate most fierce warriors. His entire bearing demands respect, and when he speaks, it's quiet, almost gentle, making it all the more terrifying.

Personality

Some violent people have a rage that makes others quail in fear. Chanse doesn't need such displays. Sure, he gets mad, but he skips the bluster and goes right to violence. He brooks no slights against his interests, and responds swiftly and decidedly, ending problems before they get out of hand. His sense of morality is grey at best, and he usually values everything above human life. He?s a scoundrel, a wicked man, but he?s far from evil. He?s simply ruthless, violent, and does not distinguish one man or woman from another. He holds no true biases, but sees everyone equally - equally a mark, an enemy, and someone he may have to kill one day. He chooses to enjoy his life, rather than be a victim, and he's very, very good at it.

Background

As the owner and proprietor of the Murder of Crows Boardinghouse, Chanse Grayhope is not one would call a soft man. He's survived the better part of two decades running the establishment most favored by those needing to disappear for a while by being the kind of man that seems to have very few (living) enemies, but somehow still knows far more than he ought to about anything and everything. He always seems to be given more respect than most would expect from the dangerous sorts living in the Lower Borough, and not just due to a willingness to crack a few skulls from those that get carried away in his establishment. More than a few rough sorts that have crossed the boardinghouse owner have gone missing, and even among some of hard cases of the Lower Boroughs there is a surprising amount of fear for the businessman.

For a man living among the lowest of the low of Arx, he seems relatively content exactly where he is and has made little effort to change his station in life. Some of the thugs wonder just how he gets away with it, rarely seeming surprised by anything and showing a shocking amount of lese majeste to some nobles that visit without repercussions. He never asks others their business, and has implied it's extremely wise to do the same to him.
