Description

So very far from those noble women who fuss over their looks, there lies Blossom Corsetina. Undeniably pretty and seemingly completely unaware of it, she keeps her dark, curly hair in a short, messy cut to keep it out of her way. It's even money every day whether she'll have a splotch of brightly-colored paint somewhere on her cinnamon skin or the dress she's wearing. Hazel eyes bordering on brown... it's difficult to tell, because they never stay still long enough to focus on anything that isn't a painting. She's short and slender, gifted with her family's curves, but unlike her cousins, those hips will never be a danger to anyone but herself.

Personality

Sweet, friendly, kind, and not-all-there are the best ways to describe Blossom. It's as if she lives in her own little world that intersects with our own only sometimes, and never reliably. She regularly gets lost in her work, in her thoughts, in the city... sometimes she'll forget to wash the paint off of her hands, or forget to bring her purse to the market, or forget she's talking to someone in the middle of a conversation. She takes people at face value - perhaps because she's never paying enough attention to see the undercurrent - but still somehow manages to avoid danger through sheer luck.

Background

The only child of a Setarco courtier named Rose, Blossom grew up accustomed to a comfortable life for a commoner, but a life her mother knew wouldn't be right for her. Blossom had the beauty and the grace to work as a courtier, but she lacked everything else, especially the attentiveness to learn it all. More importantly, perhaps, was that she lacked the political savvy needed to survive and excel in Lycene society. She wanted to paint, more than anything. She was actually pretty okay at it, with the sort of talent and vision that buys commissions, but won't be celebrated in hundreds of years.

A mother's love is what led Rose to contact the estranged family whose name she bears - Corsetina, to save money for a place on a ship to Arx, and to send her daughter north, far from the warm sun and the treachery of Lycene politics. Arx - so far from home, but maybe a better place for her.
